In this post, I’d like to write about our number obsession as a society. It’s insane how much we rely on numbers, especially when it comes to our food.
How many of you count calories? Or Weight Watcher points?
How many of you rely on your scale in the morning, trying to figure out what that number really mean?
Do you know what a calorie is? Do you know what a kilo is? I don’t. Just as I can’t tell you how much 1 W is, or how long a kilometer is – and it isn’t, contrary to what everybody’s telling you, essential for being healthy. In fact, I think it contributes to being unhealthy, if anything!
So, how do I think people should measure their health then? On how they feel of course! It doesn’t matter how much healthy stuff your eating; if you don’t feel happy, energetic and healthy, it doesn’t matter, does it? Ask yourself if you are these things, if you feel comfortable with how you look and how you feel, if you can do the things you want to do etc., then the answer is yes, you are healthy!
Now, if you have to have something less abstract to go on, try clothing. Which ones still fits and what new pants can you wear again/have to put in the back of the wardrobe?
The main point I want to make here is that you shouldn’t trust that which you do not know, regardless if it’s the newest miracle diet, some drug or processed food.
