In this post, I’ve gathered the main reasons people decide to go vegetarian (listed in an alphabetical order).
- economical reasons:
- plant are cheaper than meat.
- you can grow your own food, saving ever more money. - environmental reason:
- a plant based diet supports a sustainable lifestyle.
- you can eat plants raw, saving energy.
- plants produce oxygen and consumes carbon dioxide.
- farming produce for human consumption requires less energy, water and space than raising livestock. - gastronomical reasons:
- produce taste and look better and has a much more appealing texture than flesh.
- plants are easy to prepare.
- you can vary the food much more efficiently with a plant based diet than a meat based one.
- the food is simply beautiful! - humane reasons:
- by buying animal products, you support the factory farming industry and all the cruelty that comes with it.
- if you’re uncomfortable with the idea of where your food came from, isn’t it reasonable to assume that there might be a reason to avoid that food?
- the land used to feed farm animals could feed humans and diminish world hunger.
- “no animal deserves to die for your tastbuds”. (peta) - medicinal reasons:
- the human body isn’t designed to consume animal products: we are herbivores.
- choosing a plant based diet can prevent and even reverse a number of serious diseases linked to the consumption of animal products, such as type II diabetes, some types of cancer and heart disease.
- by staying away from meat, the risk of catching bird flu, mad cow disease or salmonella is significantly reduced.
- seeing as produce is lower down the food chain, it contains less amounts of insecticides (such as PCB and DDT) than animals.
- you feel happier, more alive and energetic on a vegetarian diet.
- you can get all your necessary nutrients by only consuming plants, but not by only eating animal products.
Not enough? How about these:
- a vegetarian lifestyle opens your eyes; making you research whats in different foods, making you prepare, cook and connect with your food, making you smarter and more informed.
- it’s only natural!
- because you can make a difference!
